The Parish Council is particularly active in supporting and preserving the village aspects of Bainton and Ashton. This is mainly done by commenting on planning applications to Peterborough City Council Planning Dept, making representations to the council and other bodies to maintain highway safety, road and pavement maintenance and repairs, managing applications for grants to improve the area, and organizing and promoting local restoration / reclamation activities. The Council is also responsible for some local maintenance around the village.

The Council seeks to promote the village community spirit within Ashton and Bainton villages and has been responsible for a number of initiatives over the years which draw out this spirit from the local residents – litter collection, bulb planting etc.
